This study investigates the pedagogy of tacit-to-explicit processes and how these pedagogies influence the workmanship of risk and certainty. Can uncertainty arise in traditional design, often shrugged as an imitative practice? If traditional design must be understood as an impulse to do a job well for its own sake, then it is essential to evaluate the kind and extent of risk that traditional designers take in making an object. In this study, the slow, incremental changes often associated with a traditional design practice were observed through an ethnographic lens in the studios of the Banarasi toy-designers, well known for making wooden play objects for over 100 years at Varanasi, India. Four learning tools were mapped on the knowledge spiral of Nonaka and Takeuchi, viz. Learning-by-Observation, Learning-by-Emulating, Learning-by-Doing, and Learning-by-Reflecting. The risks associated with each learning tool are elucidated, and a contextual evaluation framework for the assessment of products is proposed. © 2025 The vocational Aspect of education Ltd.

Introduction. The active development of creative industries generates a demand for improvements in the education system. Aim. This article aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of creativity, enabling the effective design of the conditions and technologies necessary for its development within the educational process. Methodology and research methods. The theoretical and methodological analysis of the topic presented in the article is grounded in synergetic, activity-based, and value-regulatory methodological approaches. Results. In accordance with the research hypothesis, “myths” or one-dimensional perceptions of creativity were identified as the most common obstacles to the incorporation of practices aimed at fostering creativity in education . The analysis facilitated the development of an integrative model of creativity, characterised as a synthesis of divergent and convergent thinking; spontaneity and manufacturability; as well as defocusing (or wandering creativity) and focusing during the creative search for values, meanings, and priorities. Scientific novelty. The scientific novelty lies in the proposal to consider creativity as a complex, non-linear process that fluctuates between chaos and order, spontaneity and manufacturability, as well as defocusing and value-based target focusing in each specific creative situation, unlike structural-integrative models. The integrative nature of creativity is shaped by the characteristics of complex self-organising systems. Practical significance. The proposed integrative approach enables the establishment of guidelines for enhancing the training of future vocational teachers in the creative industries. This approach not only articulates the factors of creativity but also defines the parameters for designing educational technologies. © 2025 Russian State vocational Pedagogical University. This research aims to measure the influence of green technology competencies (GTC), sociocultural norms (SCN), and perceived long-term benefits (PB) on green technology use behavior (UB) in vocational education and learning. In addition, the mediating role of PB is also tested to bridge the indirect influence of GTC and SCN on UB. Expost-facto research was conducted in vocational education , involving 531 participants who voluntarily joined as teachers and students and had specific criteria tailored to their needs. Data collection was assisted by using a closed questionnaire with four Likert scales, which had been tested for validity and reliability. Structural Equation Modeling was used to analyze data through path analysis and bootstrap methods. This research proves the importance of PB in playing a crucial role as a determinant of UB on teachers and students. This research also provides an essential insight into how GTC and SCN play a significant role in growing PB and determining UB. These results provide an essential signal, especially for vocational education , to balance the power of competence and foundations to stimulate the growth of solid behavior to use green technology sustainably. The synergy between various stakeholders and sociocultural communities is an important key that must continue to be pursued. © 2025 Malque Publishing. All rights reserved.

This article explores the influence of institutional landscapes on vocational education and training (VET) organisations, leveraging the insights provided by neo-institutional theory on the relationships between internal and external sources for legitimacy and adaptation. The article explains key theoretical concepts from neo-institutional theory such as institutional myths, isomorphism, decoupling, agency, and the definitions of rational and irrational actors, demonstrating their relevance and applicability in contemporary VET research. The author argues that neo-institutional theory offers a framework to investigate the organisational and institutional dynamics shaping VET and opens for analysis, moving beyond current assumptions of formal structure and rationality. By showcasing diverse studies employing neo-institutional concepts, the article highlights the theory’s utility at the individual, organisational, and policy levels. The discussion underscores the importance of grounding VET research in theoretical exploration rather than normative or prescriptive definitions of an ideal state, encouraging a nuanced understanding of VET organisations’ interactions with their environments. The framework supports researchers in extending their analytical scope beyond immediate institutional contexts. © 2025 The Author(s). Purpose: This study aims to use the dual-continuum model of mental health to explore mental health in Australian construction apprentices from the perspective of key stakeholders in the apprenticeship model. In particular, this study explored how construction apprentices, vocational education and Training (VET) teachers, industry employers and mental health workers understood the construct of mental health, factors associated with the dimension of psychological distress/symptoms of mental illness, and factors associated with the dimension of mental wellbeing. Design/methodology/approach: This study used an exploratory qualitative research design. Data from 36 semi-structured interviews were analysed using thematic analysis. Participants comprised 19 Australian construction apprentices, 5 VET teachers, 7 industry employers and 5 mental health workers. Findings: In total, 14 themes were generated from the data set. Participants across stakeholder groups reported a limited understanding about mental health. Participants cited a range of negative personal, workplace and industry factors associated with psychological distress/symptoms of mental illness, but only reported a few factors associated with mental wellbeing. Originality/value: To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is one of the first to use the dual-continuum model of mental health to explore the mental health of Australian construction apprentices, and to explore the factors associated with both dimensions of this model from the perspective of key stakeholders in the Australian construction apprenticeship model. © 2024, Emerald Publishing Limited.

The Internet of Things (IoT) holds significant potential to enhance vocational education , yet its implementation in this sector remains limited and has a low success rate. Ensuring organizational readiness is essential for successful IoT adoption. This study aims to develop a readiness model to assess the preparedness of urban vocational high schools (VHS) in Indonesia for IoT adoption. The research objectives are to identify key factors influencing VHS readiness, analyze their interrelationships, and determine priority areas for improvement to facilitate IoT adoption in urban VHSs. A quantitative online survey, covering ten factors and 54 indicators, was conducted with top management representatives from 159 urban VHSs in West Java, Indonesia. Data were analyzed through reflective measurement assessments, structural model assessments, and Importance-Performance Map Analysis (IPMA). The study identified four dimensions impacting VHS readiness for IoT adoption: environment, organization, technology, and people. The environmental dimension encompasses market forces, supporting industries, and government regulation, which in turn affect the organizational dimension, including governance and management support and financial readiness. The organizational dimension influences the technological dimension, represented by IoT infrastructure and data readiness and IoT operational readiness. The people dimension comprises technological pedagogical content knowledge and readiness to use technology, all of which directly or indirectly influence the primary factor, readiness to use IoT. Reflective assessments confirmed the validity and reliability of the indicators and factors, and structural model tests supported 12 of the 13 proposed hypotheses. IPMA results identified readiness to use technology and IoT infrastructure and data readiness as top priorities for improvement. This study offers valuable insights for VHS management in preparing for IoT adoption, contributing to the advancement of vocational education by synthesizing multiple foundational readiness frameworks. Additionally, it provides a reference for developing new models to assess and improve IoT readiness in educational settings or in other settings. © 2025, Qubahan. All rights reserved.

The convergence of three factors – namely, the global recession, the emergence of the college aspiration fulfilment industry and the urgent need for technological innovation in the field of national strategy – presents considerable obstacles to the advancement of environmental science. In other words, the demand for environmental protection services is declining as a result of the global economic downturn. The advent of the internet has rendered environmental science an unfavorable choice for those pursuing higher education . National strategies that demand innovation have led to the reconstruction of professional curriculum systems. In order to address the aforementioned challenges, a framework for a PBL tutor system based on the triple helix model in environmental science within the School of Metallurgy at Northeastern University is proposed. This approach will be implemented across disciplinary boundaries. Furthermore, the particular issues or projects may be supplied by industry partners, reflecting the pressing necessity for strategic innovation at the national level. It is projected that the introduction of a problem/project-based learning tutoring system will greatly improve students’ ability to oversee projects, especially when it comes to longer-term vocational training. This is consistent with the knowledge production theory of the triple helix model and meets the requirements of undergraduate employment skills. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Civil Society's Education: Reflections on the Informal Roots of Learning
(2025)
This book examines the relationship between the educational activities of civil society and those of the state via three case studies in vocational education , political education , and educational markets. Winch argues that the narrower educational activities of the state cannot be understood independently of those that take place in civil society which consists of institutions such as families, churches, businesses, trade unions, charities and political associations. Drawing on arguments and ideas in the work of Hume, Wittgenstein, Rhees, Vico, Hegel and Gramsci and building on the work of authors such as Bakhurst, Roedl and Hamlyn, the book breaks new ground in offering a philosophical account of civil society and the place of education within it. It is relevant to a range of societies, including those without a state or where the state has little influence, located in geographically and temporally diverse contexts. © Christopher Winch, 2025.
