Abstract

The implementation of industrial classes in Vocational Schools aims to improve the quality of graduates so that after completing their studies at Vocational School students become middle-level skilled workers in the industry. To meet these objectives, Vocational Schools apply Work-Based Learning through Industrial Class (WBL-IC). Work-based learning is a Contextual teaching-learning (CTL) approach where the business/industry provides a set of workplace-based learning experiences that are structured and guided by instructors in the industry along with instructors from experienced and industry-certified Vocational Schools. The results of the study show that the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the WBL-IC program can be carried out very well, this is proven by the existence of Vocational School graduates who have graduated from the WBL-IC program, mostly directly recruited to become employees by the partner industry. While a small number of them work in similar fields outside the partner industry with a short waiting period to get relevant jobs. © 2019 IEEE.
