Preparing the workforce for the new blue economy (NBE) requires attention to the tools, techniques, and curricula utilized during educational experiences, as the NBE requires a collaborative workforce capable of resolving complex issues. Improvements needed across the spectrum of educational preparation, from primary school to graduate school, are introduced as well as some proposed solutions. Building on mainstream resources and expanding traditional, vocational, hybrid, microcredentials and certificates, and industry-based (e.g., internship) approaches, a new set of skills and experiences must be established quickly to attend to the growing need. © 2021 Elsevier Inc.
