Purpose: This study explored the establishment of a customized employment support system as one of the alternative approaches to revitalize the employment of people with severe disabilities. Method: In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the concept of customized employment that emerged as a result of the revision of the Vocational Education and Opportunity Improvement Act in the United States was reviewed by synthesizing existing research results on customized employment. Also, the approach strategy, characteristics, performance, and the role of experts in customized employment were reviewed. Results: Customized employment reflected the position and needs of the people with severe disabilities rather than the position of the employer, which has been emphasized in the traditional vocational rehabilitation model or supported employment, and prepared for the employment of people with severe disabilities by comprehensively considering the preferred job of the people with disabilities and the job demands of the employer. It was confirmed that it was an integrated employment support strategy based on general employment to systematically provide the overall process from job retention to job retention. Conclusion: Based on these results, a plan to utilize customized employment in The Republic of Korea was proposed by dividing each individual into an individually customized employment support system establishment method, community infrastructure establishment method, and a school and community level support method. © 2022 Seorim.
