Apprenticeship Programs in a Blended Design Case

Learning, Design, and Technology: An International Compendium of Theory, Research, Practice, and Policy
Journal · pp. 2305-2321
Abstract

This design case details the efforts of our design team to switch to the blended learning modality in apprenticeship programs (electrical, HVAC, and plumbing) at a technical college. We first examine the unique circumstances of technical colleges and how blended learning is uniquely helpful to them. We then discuss our team and our values. Following that, we explain how we planned to implement blended learning in the beginning of 2020, and then how those plans radically changed with the onset of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions reaching the western United States. We proceed with how we adapted to the pandemic and implemented our plan and share insights we gleaned from our experiences as well as the experiences of the students and faculty we worked with. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
