Fostering Sustainable Innovation Through Digital Transformation: A Deep Dive Into Circular Economy Principles and SDG 9

Innovating Sustainability Through Digital Circular Economy
Journal · pp. 353-372
Abstract

The convergence of digital transformation and the circular economy presents unprecedented opportunities for fostering sustainable innovation, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 9 (SDG 9) – “Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.” This research investigates the principles of the circular economy and explores how digital technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data analytics, can drive sustainable practices across industries. By focusing on the application of digital transformation within circular economy frameworks, this paper highlights the synergies that can enhance resource efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and promote economic growth. The research examines case studies across multiple sectors, offering insights into how these principles can be operationalized to achieve both economic and environmental sustainability. It also analyzes the challenges and barriers faced by industries and policymakers and proposes strategies for integrating digital solutions in line with the broader objectives of SDG 9. © 2025 by IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
