In today's fast-paced and competitive environment, challenges such as unemployment, evolving work structures, diverse workplace cultures, and digital transformation demand proactive foresight. Consequently, it is essential for young people to develop career adaptability to effectively navigate and respond to these shifting conditions. The study aims to explore how proactive personality influences career adaptability in the context of digital transformation, with digital literacy acting as a key mediator. The study employs PLS-SEM for data analysis. Data were collected through an online questionnaire via Google Forms, surveying 364 accounting and auditing students enrolled in ACCA and ICAEW qualification-integrated qualification programs at a leading university in Vietnam. The findings reveal that digital literacy mediates the positive relationship between proactive personality and career adaptability. This research highlights the role of proactive personality in leveraging digital literacy to overcome career challenges, offering novel insights into career adaptability and professional growth in the digital age. Additionally, the findings provide university students, educators, and policymakers with a deep understanding of the future prospects of accounting and auditing programs that incorporate international practice certifications. This, in turn, facilitates the development of effective strategies to prepare for an increasingly complex and technology-driven job market. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd
