Using UX Design in inclusive teacher education in higher education to bridge the research-to-practice gap

Abstract

Teachers in inclusive classrooms do not use the results of scientific research on evidence-based practices; this gap between research and practice can be seen as a result of theoretical content in teacher education and should be reduced. UX design is an approach from Computer Sciences to build a bridge from providers to users. The following study looks for ways to bridge the theory-practice gap with the help of the UX design approach in inclusive teacher education. Therefore, the use of UX design was implemented in a course for student teachers for inclusive education. The results on three levels - technical improvement of the whiteboard, students' experiences and the seminar method - showed positive results and revealed the potential of UX design methods in inclusive teacher education, which should be explored in further studies. © 2024 International Conference on Higher Education Advances.
