LOW-COST ARDUINO TO FOSTER THE ENGINEERING DESIGN PROCESS IN STEM EDUCATION

Abstract

This study examined the impact of using low-cost Arduino projects of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) on enhancing the engineering competence of secondary school science teachers. Fifteen teachers participated in the program, successfully developing five distinct Arduino projects that integrated engineering design processes. The results indicated that teachers who engaged in the PLC program significantly improved their engineering skills, demonstrating the potential of Arduino as an accessible and effective tool for fostering Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. This study highlights the value of structured collaborative environments and hands-on learning tools in professional development programs for teachers, aiming to enhance their ability to deliver comprehensive and effective STEM education. © School of Engineering, Taylor’s University.
