In Taiwan, teacher-training programs are available in postsecondary institutions and usually require up to four years of study. These programs fall into two categories: programs for training secondary-education teachers, and programs for training primary-school and kindergarten teachers. Normal universities primarily offer the former programs, while education universities chiefly offer the latter. Both types accept senior high-school graduates for a four-year program, with an internship period of six months. To teach at colleges or universities, an advanced degree is required, preferably a doctorate (MOE 2005). © 2012, Chuing Prudence Chou, Gregory Ching.
