Abstract

Young people who interrupted their apprenticeship due to interpersonal difficulties encountered on the workplace can be anxious to start a new vocational training. To address this concern, this article proposes to integrate functional analysis in traditional career counseling interventions. This method originates from cognitive and behavioral therapies and allows emphasizing the sequence of cognitions, emotions and behaviors that results from the confrontation with a daunting situation, in order to identify the individual's resources to cope with it. A case illustration shows how an adequate use of this method requires combining a directive attitude with a posture fostering the counselee's autonomy. © Tous droits réservés
