This article highlights the teachers'influence on youngsters'educational choices in upper-secondary education who are assigned to less demanding tracks. Teachers' influence cannot be reduced to the final decisions during school councils but is as well effective all along the school year: teachers are not only pointing the possible educational options to pupils but also allocate them to the most probable routes expected by the tracks they are assigned to, changing or strengthening their dispositions. In the end, teachers ' decisions are informed by their class fraction and gender habitus. © 2018 Institut National d'Etude du Travail et d'Orientation Professionnelle. All rights reserved.
